Winter Storm:
December 29-30, 2005

A strong area low pressure area over South Dakota on December 29th, moved due east across far southern Minnesota on the 30th of December. This storm dumped a blanket of wet heavy snow across much of Minnesota. The heaviest snow so far has been in west central Minnesota where Madison picked up 11 inches. Totals from 4 to 6 inches were common across central Minnesota. The Twin Cities International Airport has picked up 4.0 inches as of 3 pm December 30. Northern Minnesota also saw snow from this system with 4.9 inches at the Duluth Airport as of 2:45pm on December 30. The lightest snows have been over far northern Minnesota, where less than an inch fell at International Falls and far south central and southeast Minnesota, where the snow mixed with drizzle at times and some drier air was present.
