Record Breaking Storm - November 10, 1998
A massive storm moving through the Minnesota on November 10, 1998 brought heavy snow, damaging winds, and record breaking low pressure to some locations. Below you will find various statements released by the National Weather Service regarding this event.

THE LOWEST PRESSURE RECORDED AT THE TWIN CITIES AIRPORT TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10 1998 WAS...28.55 INCHES BETWEEN 1205 PM AND 110 PM. THIS IS A NEW ALL TIME RECORD LOW PRESSURE FOR THE TWIN CITIES. THE FIVE LOWEST BAROMETRIC READINGS AT THE TWIN CITIES ARE... 28.55 NOV 10 1998 28.62 JAN 10 1975 28.77 APR 13 1964 28.77 FEB 26 1971 28.78 MAR 15 1920 ALSO...IT APPEARS THE LOWEST READINGS OF 28.43 AT BOTH AUSTIN AND ALBERT LEA WILL INDEED STAND UP AS THE STATE RECORD FOR LOWEST MEASURED BAROMETRIC PRESSURE...ECLIPSING THE OLD RECORD OF 28.55 IN DULUTH ON JANUARY 11 1975. NOT ONLY DID DULUTH BREAK ITS ALLTIME LOWEST PRESSURE READING EVER RECORDED...NEW DAILY RECORDS FOR NOVEMBER 1OTH WERE SET FOR PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL. AT 235 PM YESTEDAY NOVEMBER 10TH...THE PRESSURE DROPPED TO 28.475 INCHES...OR 964.3 MILLIBARS...BREAKING THE OLD LOWEST PRESSURE RECORD SET ON JANUARY 11 1975. THE OLD RECORD WAS 28.55 INCHES...OR 966.8 MILLIBARS. THIS IS THE LOWEST PRESSURE EVER RECORDED IN DULUTH SINCE WEATHER RECORDS BEGAN BACK IN OCTOBER OF 1870. A NEW DAILY RECORD FOR PRECIPITATION WAS SET ON NOVEMBER 10TH WITH 2.33 INCHES RECORDED. THIS BREAKS THE OLD DAILY PRECIPITATION RECORD FOR THE DAY OF 1.20 INCHES SET BACK IN 1880. A NEW DAILY SNOWFALL RECORD WAS ALSO SET FOR NOVEMBER 10TH WITH 7.2 INCHES. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD FOR THE DAY OF 3.9 INCHES SET IN 1982. SES
PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SIOUX FALLS SD 305 PM CST TUE NOV 10 1998 ...SNOWSTORM CAUSES RECORDS TO FALL... AS OF 3 PM SNOW CONTINUES TO FALL AND SO DO A FEW RECORDS. SO FAR 12.5 INCHES HAVE BEEN RECORDED AT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE AT JOE FOSS FIELD. BELOW IS A LISTING OF RECORDS THAT HAVE BEEN BROKE AND ALSO GIVES AN IDEA HOW THIS STORM RATES WITH OTHERS THAT HAVE OCCURRED. 1) THE PRESSURE OF 28.88 BROKE THE LOWEST PRESSURE EVER TO BE RECORDED FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER IN SIOUX FALLS. OLD RECORD 29.03 SET IN 1961. 2) BROKE THE SNOWFALL RECORD FOR THE DAY OF NOVEMBER 10TH. OLD RECORD WAS 1 INCH SET IN 1896. 3) SO FAR THIS STORM IS THE NINTH HEAVIEST 24 HOUR SNOWSTORM EVER TO HIT SIOUX FALLS.
