Springtime Heat: April 14, 2003
The finale to the warm spell over Minnesota was the record heat on Monday April 14th. This heat smashed records across the southern two thirds of Minnesota. Some places even cracked 90. Benson and Montevideo hit 93. The high heat and low humidity on both Sunday and Monday set the stage for numerous grass fires. The largest fire was a 3,400 acre one near Appleton on Sunday. A cool front draped over northern Minnesota prevented the record heat from reaching that part of the state. Some of the records included 89 at both St. Cloud and the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. Cool air filtered south over the state overnight and put an end to the high heat.
Listed below is information from National Weather Service Public Information Statements about various warm records broken.
