April Fool's Day Snowfall of April 1-2, 2002
An April Fools' Day joke in the form of a springtime snowstorm visited Minnesota.
Measurable snow fell across much of central Minnesota and western Wisconsin with the heaviest snow across
east central Minnesota. Temperatures with the snow hovered
in the upper 20's. Numerous accidents were reported across the Twin Cities. Where there
was ample sunshine and a lack of snow cover in southwest Minnesota the temperatures
soared into the upper 40's. The official snow meauring site for the Twin Cities in
Chanhassen measured 7.6 inches as a two day total. This was enough for the 8th largest
April snowstorm for the Twin Cities.
