Record Warmth:
March 26, 2007
Plenty of sunshine, a light southerly breeze and zero snow cover lead to a record warm day over much of central and southern Minnesota. Maximum temperatures in the low 80's were common over southern Minnesota. Records were broken in many places. The maximum temperature of 81 at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport set a record for the day and missed the all time March record by only two degrees. This was only the sixth time since 1891 that the mercury reached 80 degrees or warmer at the official Twin Cities observing station. The all time record high of 83 for March was set on three dates: March 23, 1910, March 29, 1986 and March 30, 1968.
A cool front moved across the state during the evening and overnight hours and put an end to the June-like temperatures.
