Wet and Cold in the Twin Cities (August 19, 1997)
The Twin Cities International Airport received 3.19 inches of rain on 
Tuesday, August 19. This crushes the old daily record of 0.96 inches
set back in 1904. The heavy rain marks the fourth time that daily total rainfall
exceeded 2.50 inches this summer. The previous record for days with
rainfall greater than 2.50 inches in a year was two. 

In addition to the new rainfall record, the Twin Cities also tied the 
record for the coldest high temperature for August 19. The high 
temperature reached only 61 degrees, tying the record set in 1985
