Wet Spring, 1999
Spring has been very moist over much of
Minnesota. Some areas have received double the
normal amount of precipitation since April 1. May
has been especially wet with some rivers again
reaching flood stage. Many regions of the state
are at or near record amounts of precipitation
since April 1. Weekly
Precipitation and Seasonal Departure Maps
indicate that as of mid-May, most of Minnesota is
at or above the 90th percentile for growing
season rainfall. The deluge led to very high
stream and river levels. Stream flow data are
depicted by the Weekly
Stream Flow Maps prepared by DNR
Waters. Another result of the recent
rains is delayed agricultural field operations.
The current weekly field working situation can be
monitored using the Weekly
Crop-Weather Report offered by the Minnesota
Agricultural Statistics Service.
